WORLD OF WARCRAFT: FOREVER · LEGACY SYSTEM
Legacy system: what to take first
Account-wide perks aimed at alts: one Legacy point per challenge completed, spent across three trees. Up to 16 points per character at launch, 65 earnable in total, nothing combat-related.
How to spend your Legacy points
Legacy points are shared by the account, but each character spends them in its own trees. The three routes below are ordered point by point for however many you have: what to take first and why. Every reason quotes the client's own numbers; nothing beyond them is guessed.
Points arrive as you level; take what cuts downtime right away
Open from the first row, no gate. Each killing blow on an enemy worth XP or honor restores 1% → 5% of max Health and Mana over 10 s, so fewer sit-downs between pulls. Does nothing in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds.
Camp feature cooldown -8% / -17% / -25%. Mostly here because Frequent Flier needs it first.
Recently Bandaged 5 / 10 s shorter, so the next bandage comes sooner; melee classes lean on bandages while leveling. Needs 5 points in the tree.
All flight paths cost 50% less and fly 20% faster. Leveling is where you take the most flights, so it saves both gold and time. Needs 10 points in the tree and Field Guide.
Rested XP builds 4% faster and caps 4% higher per rank (+20% at 5). A main played daily banks little rest, so it comes last.
Talented (talent points from level 5) does little for a first character: points usually arrive after 25, and whether it back-fills the earlier talent points is not in the client text. To be checked at launch.
Leveling perks stop mattering at 60; respec for raiding and saving gold
Food buffs last 33% / 67% / 100% longer, so one meal covers twice the raid time. No gate in Resourcefulness.
For 1 / 2 min after a resurrection (or until combat) your helpful spells and abilities cost nothing, and you move 5% / 10% faster while dead. Free rebuffs and heals after a wipe, and it unlocks Reagent Economy.
Class abilities that give the whole party or raid long-duration stats last 50% / 100% longer, and camp rest buffs too. Needs Gourmand.
Death durability loss -8% per rank (-40% at 5). Progression wipes add up; this cuts the repair bill by up to 40%.
Class abilities no longer need vendor-bought reagents. Needs 10 points in the tree and The Quick and the Dead. Reagents vendors do not sell are not covered (the Oct 15 beta fix put the Soul Shard back on Summon Incubus).
Reputation gains +2% per rank. Useful once you grind reputations for gear and recipes at 60; the leftover points go here.
- PvP: swap Diplomat 3 for For Great Honor 3 (+2% Honor per rank, needs 5 points in the tree).
- Gathering for gold: Professions tree, Bountiful Harvest 5 (+20% Scarce material chance per rank) and Bartering 2 (vendor prices -5% per rank).
The account already has points, so they help from level 1
Rested XP builds 20% faster and caps 20% higher. An alt played every few days fills that bigger pool; it also unlocks Talented.
Talent points every level from 5 instead of 10, still 51 in total: 5 points by level 9, 5 more than usual at every level from 9 to 55, full at 55. Needs 5 points in the tree and Well Rested.
Kills restore 5% Health and Mana over 10 s, fewer stops while questing.
The last point: Recently Bandaged 5 s shorter.
- If you fly a lot: Thrill of Adventure 2 only, and take Field Guide 3 plus Frequent Flier instead (Well Rested 5 + Talented 5 already meets the 10-point gate).
- At 60, respec into the Level 60 route.
Worth knowing first
- Where points come from: account achievements, 1 point each: first time a class reaches 25 / 45 / 60, Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking or Tailoring first reaches 150 / 225 / 300, three dungeon and three raid achievements, Explore Azeroth, the Lord Valthalak questline, and PvP rank, reputation and season-journey achievements, 65 in all; at launch a character can spend up to 16.
- So the first character earns points slowly while leveling: the first one is usually the level-25 Novice achievement or a profession hitting 150. The First character route is ordered for that pace.
- Respecs are cheap: per the Oct 8 beta notes the lowest respec costs 1 silver, and the price drops back one step per hour. Respec into the Level 60 route once you cap.
- Prerequisites are assumed fully ranked (Talented after all 5 ranks of Well Rested). The client only says the earlier perk is required, not how many ranks; if 1 rank turns out to be enough at launch, move the spare points elsewhere.
- Beta players were granted 16 points at once on the test realm (the Played in the WoW: Forever Beta achievement); whether and when that carries to live has not been announced. To be checked at launch.
